Digital Retinal Photography

Digital retinal photography is the new age tool for accurately monitoring changes to the back of the eye (retina, blood vessels and optic nerve).  Previously, we used sketches on record cards to indicate the size and relationship of certain structures at the back of the eye.  This new age technology allows us to take a snap shot in time of some of the most important structures involved in your ability to see.

Many eye health problems come about by visible changes to these ocular structures, visible changes that can be photographed.  These photographs are then stored for future reference and as an aid to help explain your ocular health to you.

Sonja, Priscilla and Richard have the training and expertise to diagnose and treat eye irritations and infections with prescription medications (Therapeutic endorsement).

In the case of:

Soreness / redness / irritation

Steel / wood / dirt / sand or any foreign object

Discharge; watery / mucous / stringy

Injury to the eye or surrounds

Sudden loss of vision

Sudden increased glare sensitivity of one eye

Sudden appearance of spots or flashes of light in your vision

We need to establish how severe the problem is and we will fit your appointment in accordingly.
Our optometrists will examine serious ocular emergencies even if they are fully booked. Just call our friendly reception staff as early in the day as possible so we can assess the severity of the problem and treat it accordingly.

Never leave any serious symptom/s in the hope that they will ‘go away’!

 

 

Refractive Laser Eye Surgery

If you are interested in laser eye surgery to reduce your dependency on glasses, let us know! We can discuss your options with you and explain the many different procedures in general so you can have an independent opinion on your eligibility. Refractive Laser eye surgery is a fantastic innovation, but is only fantastic if the person is chosen properly. The patient needs to have a clear understanding of the procedure, the risks and have the right expectations. In general patients with shortsightedness (myopia) have the most successful outcomes. The procedure is available for longsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism, but may be less successful depending on the severity of each.

We can provide you with a complete assessment to determine your eligibility for such surgery. We can then provide a referral including all your previous prescription and ocular history. Should you have such surgery, our optometrists can co-manage your follow-up reviews if this is more convenient.

 

 

Low Vision Services

One of our optometrists has two postgraduate certificates in low vision care and has previously worked at Vision Australia, Kooyong.

We can discuss improved lighting, extra magnification in reading glasses or magnifying lenses.
There has been a lot of advancement in the technology of magnifiers that link to your home TV, enabling some reading for those with very poor sight. We can access this equipment and provide demonstrations for patients.
